Informative, inspirational and insightful - I once was blind about business and entrepreneurship, but now I see! Dave Almarinez' The Blind Spot is truly an eye-opener!
Non-fiction is usually not my cup of tea when it comes to the books I read. But every once in a while, I pick up a nonfiction book just to 'clean my palate' from the usual slew of books I read. Luckily, I got the chance to read and review Filipino author Dave Almarinez' book The Blind Spot.
When I was young, I was often told by my parents that if I wanted to be successful someday, I should try my best to do good in school. My teacher in Legal Philosophy way back in College had a term for this - 'Conditioning'.
Most people today were conditioned to act and think a certain way by their parents who were also conditioned by their parents, and so on. And the things that our parents say become so ingrained in ourselves that we become blind to the countless possibilities and the limitless paths we can take if we only dare see. There's even a bible verse about this, Proverbs 22:6 - "Train a child in the way he should go and when he grows up, he will not depart from it."
When I started reading Dave Almarinez' book, I was pretty neutral as far as business went. My Mom ran a modest mini-grocery that was doing well enough. She knew how to make money circulate and grow. Then in College, we had a subject in Economics - supply and demand. That was the extent of my knowledge about business.
However, when I read deeper into the book, I felt a shift in my perspective of business and entrepreneurship. It opened up my eyes to the many possibilities that I could do to be successful.
The tried and tested ways to become successful has become obsolete. Most people followed what the bandwagon has been doing for the last decade or so in order to become successful that the competition has become stiffer and the requirements became steeper, but the benefits weren't as rewarding as it should be. So what should be done about this? Well, in Dave Almarinez' book, he encourages individuals to carve their own path through entrepreneurship.
'Fate favors the bold', this is what The Blind Spot is all about. It encourages individuals to venture into entrepreneurship and take a risk. Sure, it might not all be rainbows and butterflies in the beginning, but if you play your cards right, you just might hit millions.
What I like about this book is that aside from breaking a plethora of myths about being successful, it also discussed the author's own experiences when he started venturing in business. And it really wasn't easy. It had a lot of drawbacks and it needed a lot of sacrifices.
I really appreciate the honesty in how the author fully explained his own experiences. I think this will be really helpful for people who want to know what they will be facing when they venture into business.
I also appreciate the little activities that the author included in the book. They mostly include little things, but these minute things and details clear up a path to encourage the reader to actually take the plunge into business.
All in all, like I said before, this book is an eye-opener. It includes the Pros and Cons of business and entrepreneurship. It's really informative but at the same time, it manages to inspire. Kudos to such a thought-provoking and enlightening read!
Dave Almarinez is a successful entrepreneur, global business strategist, and public servant—all achieved before the age of 38. His mission in life is to spread the message of pursuing dreams with boldness and conviction.
