[Blog Tour - Character Interview] Paul Dalmacio of Well Played

The Silent Type - the mysterious kind of guy who leaves us always asking questions, never satisfying our curiosity, and the kind whose intentions and actions we just can't seem to read or understand until it's too late.

Today, we get a chance to glimpse into the mind of such character, especially in the matters of his heart!

In today's post, I was lucky enough to score a rare interview with Paul Dalmacio, the "arrogant, cold math nerd" from Author Katrina Ramos Atienza's contemporary novella Well Played~!

When did you first see Patrice and what was your first impression of her?

I was captivated by her long, glossy hair and long, glossy legs --  Sorry, that was Patrice. Right. Well, I first met her at ENG5, which is an expository writing elective. She burst into the classroom. Quite talkative, seemed to know everybody. To be honest, the first time I saw her, it was, you know. Normal. No fireworks and violins. But during the class, there was something about her -- maybe the way she glared at me, I don't know -- that made me look twice. And yes, I know I wasn't exactly polite that first meeting and deserved that glare.

Was she actually different from what you initially thought she was like?

Hmm. Yes and no. No because I always knew she's, what's the word? Spirited. (Patrice insists I use kick-ass. Kick-ass, then.) Yes, because she's also, once you know her, quite sweet. She cares a lot for the people she loves.

What do you like about Patrice and why?

I like that she's upfront. She'll tell you like it is. I like that she's not afraid to get up and make a fool of herself dancing. She's kind of fearless that way. I like that she has definite ideas about things, though she can be stubborn. I like that she takes things seriously but still loves to laugh. I like a lot about her. It's not crystal clear to me now why, exactly, but I'm enjoying finding out. :-)

Would you be willing to play football against Patrice? Who do you think will win between the two of you?

No contest. Patrice would wipe the field with me.

Since you're a fictional character, which actor do you think you resemble the most?

I'm not really comfortable with that question... Patrice calls me 'unfunny John Cho' but I'm pretty sure she's teasing.

I don't know about you guys, but even if Paul was dubbed by Patrice as the "unfunny John Cho", I still find him as one of the most interesting characters I've met in a book. He's a walking enigma - you don't know what's going through his mind, and what he'll do next!
